Iftikhar Kanawati
Class of 2025
Tripoli, Lebanon
January, 2002
Iftikhar's interest in fashion sprouted during a phase in her life when she took the decision to be veiled. At the time, she struggled to find clothes that suited her style, prompting her to create her own. Fashion, for her, is the crafting of garments based on her vision along with fostering a connection with those who wear the clothes she designs. Her career aspirations revolve around addressing wardrobe gaps, eventually establishing a collection line or a brand. Iftikhar often expresses specific mental states through her inspirations, drawn mostly from nature, the universe, and the rhythms of life around her. Coming from an artistic background, she particularly connects with the design development phase, from mood board creation to fabric manipulation. She also enjoys every aspect of bringing a garment to life, from sketching on muslin to the alterations and the fun that precedes the finalization of the creation.
“CSB helped me get past my social anxiety and made me ready to vocalize my ideas and needs.”
