May Haydar
Class of 2027
Al Laylaki, Beirut, Lebanon
September, 2005
May, an avid embroiderer, began creating clothes for herself as a child, inspired by fashion shows, magazines, and the artistry in each design. Her love for textiles grew as she explored materials and their unique possibilities, finding joy in expressing herself through color, texture, and form. For May, design is a way to share emotions, tell stories, and create wearable art that challenges conventions. Her embroidery adds intricate detail, reflecting the complexities of the world and arranging her thoughts into fabric. Inspired by the beauty of nature and the richness of Arabic culture, May admires the strength and resilience symbolized in traditional designs, and is eager to carry this forth in her work.
“My experience at Creative Space Beirut has been very fulfilling and informative so far, and I’m excited to keep learning and growing with my community. Whenever I feel low or have doubts about my creative abilities, I remind myself that I’m here because they saw potential in me that aligns with the values of this supportive space. I look forward to improving and giving back to this amazing community.”
