Madame Butterfly
The heartbreak of the world-famous opera, Madame Butterfly, is the inspiration for this collection. The story revolves around the pain of a young lady who falls in love with a man who betrays her, shattering her spirit and resulting in her suicide. Basic colours such as black and nude represent the protagonist's initial purity. Then, her overwhelming and confused emotions are displayed in a plethora of colour. The hand shredded material work illustrates the cutting agony she experienced during heartbreak. The final piece is a patchwork that conceals an installation of threads, portraying the emotions that she chose to drown with suicide.
